Location:

US 31W (Dixie Hwy) at Salt River Drive in West Point, KY7.5 miles South of the Gene Snyder Freeway (Hwy 841) 9 miles North of Fort Knox Main entrance.

Hours:

Fort Duffield park is open daily year round 9 AM until dark.

  • Civil War Days living history at Fort Duffield is held on Sunday each Memorial Day weekend.
  • A Living History event is held on Labor Day Monday each year.
  • Memorial Day Services at the old Fort Duffield Cemetery takes place on Monday.


Fort Duffield was the "Union Stronghold At The Mouth of Salt River". It is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Civil War Preservation Trust's Civil War Discovery Trail. The fort can be reached using the hiking trail at the end of the parking lot. Walking tour brochures and rest rooms are available at the fort.

Some 300 feet above the city, this impregnable fortress was never challenged. However, its strategic position no doubt played an important roll in the Civil War in Kentucky.
